Following the delayed completion of ore treatment facilities at its small Abu Dabbab alluvial tin mine in Egypt, Gippsland Ltd said that commissioning “is now expected to be complete in June 2012 with first shipment of tin concentrate to Malaysian Smelting Corporation anticipated during that month.” Contract mining of the site had commenced in February but has been temporarily suspended pending completion of the treatment plant.

The mine is expected to produce some 550 tonnes of tin-in-concentrate over a 17 month period. The alluvial project is based on mining of the Wadi Quaria placer deposit adjacent to a much larger open pit tantalum-tin project planned by the company.
