ITA is pleased to announce that the International Tin Conference 2024 will be held in Penang, Malaysia at the Shangri-La Rasa Sayang Hotel between 14th – 16th May 2024.
This is an exciting time for the tin industry, and we face unprecedented opportunities and challenges. It is becoming increasingly clear that tin is a vital technology metal, and will have a crucial role in enabling a sustainable global energy transition and digitalisation over the next decade.
Tin supply chains will need to adapt rapidly to meet these challenges while also working together to manage increased Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) expectations and demonstrate how the tin sector is building a better future for everyone.
We look forward to bringing our global tin community together again!
It is important to meet and talk about where the industry is now and understand what lies ahead.
Malaysian Smelting Co (MSC) have kindly offered visits to their new smelter and mine around the conference.
So please save the dates and come to hear the views of experts and participate in the debate on all of these topics.
We will be in contact again soon with an outline of the programme for the conference.

Industry Tours

Pulau Indah Smelting facility – Monday 13th May 2024
This tour will depart from Kuala Lumpur and return to Kuala Lumpur. Delegates are responsible for making their own way from KL to Penang for the conference.
Malaysia Smelting Corporation (MSC) undertakes its smelting activities at the modern and cost-efficient smelter located in Pulau Indah, Port Klang. The heart of this facility is the state-of-the-art Top Submerged Lance (TSL) furnace, which is capable of converting up to 60,000 tonnes of tin-bearing ore to premium-grade tin metal annually using oxygen enrichment. The installation of 1.26 MWp solar photovoltaic panels at the Pulau Indah facility showcases MSC’s strong commitment to sustainability, projected to reduce the Group’s carbon footprint by 1,000 tonnes annually.
The tour will last 4 hours including transportation to and from the Smelter. Timings to be confirmed nearer the time. We are trying to organise an allocation of bedrooms at a hotel in KL for delegates to book into on the Sunday evening, in readiness for the tour on Monday. Coaches will leave from this hotel.
Rahman Hydraulic Tin (RHT) Mine – Friday 17th May 2024
Rahman Hydraulic Tin (RHT) mine is Malaysia’s largest open-pit hard-rock tin mine located in the northern part of Peninsular Malaysia. Boasting a rich history, it is currently producing over 3,500 tonnes of tin-in-concentrates (2023). At the RHT Tin Mine, MSC’s dedication to ESG progress shines through as the company endeavours to achieve net-zero carbon emissions. The possible upgrading of the existing mini hydro power plant and or planting up a new solar generation installation signifies a proactive approach towards greener operations and a more sustainable future.
This tour will leave the Shangri La Rasa Sayang Penang at 8.00 am and return to the hotel at around 16.00 hrs.
