A resumption of tin production in the UK after almost two decades is on course at Wolf Minerals Hemerdon tungsten-tin project in Devon. The company recently completed a UK£99 million fundraising and gave a progress report on activity at the site, which currently employs over 100 workers.  The UK AIM and ASX dual-listed company aims to produce some 3,500tpy tungsten and 450tpy tin in concentrate.

In a statement Wolf reported that the initial phase of construction activity at the project has been site preparation, which is now almost complete. Earthworks at the processing plant site are almost complete, and the site is being cleared and old plant infrastructure is being demolished. It is anticipated that that the site will be totally cleared by early June 2014. The first concrete pour for the project’s processing plant took place in late May. The company is currently working to complete construction of the mine access road, and the mine haul road, which will facilitate haulage of waste from the mine’s open pit to the project’s waste facility.

Wolf Managing Director, Russell Clark said: “We are delighted with the level of activity and progress achieved to date at the Hemerdon project site. The Company’s project management team and our EPC contractor, GR Engineering, are working extremely well together and construction remains on schedule for the project to be completed on time and on budget in the third quarter of 2015.
