In August, ITA CEO Helen Prins, Senior Market Analyst Tom Langston, and Market Analyst Freddie Mitchell visited leading tin producers Mineracao Taboca and White Solder.
At Taboca’s offices near Sao Paulo, ITA met with Chairman Mr Jiang Bin, Vice Chairman Mr Wan, CEO Eduardo Orban, Commercial Director Ronaldo Lasmar, and Sustainability Manager Kenji Fuzimo.
Mineracao Taboca is Brazil’s leading producer of refined tin, and operates the country’s largest tin mine, Pitinga. The company was sold earlier this year by Peruvian tin producer Minsur to Chinese metals producer China Nonferrous Metal Mining Group, and ITA is pleased to reconnect directly with Taboca following the sale. We discussed Taboca’s ongoing commitment to transparency, ESG, and research and development.
ITA staff were then led on a tour of the company’s Pirapora smelter, hearing about planned technological upgrades and production growth.
Travelling to Ribeirao Preto, ITA met with White Solder Commercial Director Paulo Amparo who gave a tour of the company’s solder plant. White Solder is the country’s second largest producer of refined tin, and is a key producer of high-value solder products for the global electronics industry.
ITA also visited the company’s smelter in Ariquemes, discussing a wide range of topics including ITA’s Tin Code and Brazil’s changing tin market. In Bom Futuro, ITA visited White Solder’s mining subsidiary NBF and neighbouring tin cooperative Coopersanta to better understand the relationship between private mine operators and cooperatives in Brazil and the importance of cooperatives to Brazil’s tin industry.
ITA thanks Mineracao Taboca and White Solder for their generous hospitality to ITA during this trip, and looks forward to strengthening ties with a key country in the tin value chain.
White Solder is a Member of the International Tin Association.
