SEVILLE, SPAIN — The 2026 International Tin Conference in Seville opened with a forward-looking keynote by Mariano Pero, Chairman of the International Tin Association (ITA) and General Manager at Operaciones Metalurgicas S.A. (OMSA) in Bolivia. Addressing an audience composed of industry leaders, Pero emphasized tin’s strategic role in a changing world.
With the global tin industry gathered in Andalusia, a region with a rich mining history and an increasingly important role in Europe’s critical minerals and industrial future, Pero highlighted the uncertainty seen over the past two years, with price volatility, tightening supply, rising geopolitical tensions, and far greater government intervention.
“The operating environment for the industry is far more complex than even a few years ago”, Pero said.
In line with the delivery phase of our TIN2030 strategy, ITA is committed to helping the industry navigate change through market intelligence via Tin Desk, innovation via Tin Valley, and sustainability via the Tin Code.
Pero underscored the rapidly rising importance of tin to the global economy and the need for “more dialogue, not less”, and announced that ITA will move to an annual International Tin Conference from 2027.
Concluding, Pero said that this conference is an opportunity to not only understand the transformative changes in the tin industry, but to help shape how our industry responds to them.
He invited attendees to continue the dialogue throughout the conference, stressing that “the decisions taken by industry, governments, and investors over the coming years will help shape the future of global supply chains, technologies and industrial resilience for decades to come”.
