The ITA has recently joined the European Partnership for Responsible Minerals (EPRM), a multi-stakeholder partnership established to create better social and economic conditions for mine workers and local mining communities that source tin, tantalum, tungsten and gold. These metals are essential for important technical sectors including ICT, automobiles, healthcare, electronic devices and telecommunications.
The EPRM’s main objectives are to increase the demand for the responsible supply of these metals among key downstream firms, to foster a standardised mechanism to enable suppliers to identify and mitigate risks in the supply chain, and to encourage coalitions and collaboration between the downstream and upstream to produce and source responsible minerals through a fully transparent supply chain.
Our membership will allow us to represent the interests of the tin industry, and contribute our knowledge and experience to the EPRM’s efforts. ITA is uniquely positioned to work on tin related issues having developed and lead the implementation of OECD guidance via ITSCI, and in other activities such as standards setting for the tin mining and smelting community through our code of conduct.
