ITA Tin Production Costs Report 2026

A market-leading report examining primary tin production costs globally, with focus on regional trends and drivers, the current state of tin production economics, and how the cost curve may change towards 2030.

This report examines the latest trends shaping global tin mine production and costs. World output fell for a third consecutive year in 2025, declining by 0.7% to 280,700 tonnes as recoveries in Indonesia, Peru, DR Congo, and Nigeria were outweighed by substantial falls elsewhere. It assesses the mixed outlook for 2026, including Myanmar’s gradual recovery, the response of African artisanal production to high prices, and the operational and policy constraints continuing to restrict primary supply.

The report also analyses the 2025 global cost curve and the principal pressures facing producers in 2026. Cash costs rose by 4.2% in 2025, although stronger by-product revenues limited net-of-by-product cost growth to 0.9%. It explores the effects of declining grades, higher royalties, energy and freight costs, exchange rates, and government intervention across key producing regions. Looking further ahead, the report evaluates global reserves and 12 new mines expected to add 34,800 tonnes of annual production by 2030, as the industry shifts towards hard-rock mining. It concludes by assessing the widening gap between tin prices and production costs—and the implications for producer margins, new project development, and continued price volatility.
